Dental Information for Parents
|
The answer is yes. Absolutely. Regular routine dental checkups are not just about cleanings to keep your child’s smile shiny and bright. They are also important in providing your child with all the necessary information and instructions on how to properly care for their teeth and gums, including how to properly brush and floss their teeth. Regular visits for exams by a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist will help you to be proactive in identifying any sort of oral abnormalities your child may have that could put them at risk for future dental issues. These visits also play a vital role in minimizing the effects of decay on your child’s mouth by catching and treating cavities early on. Children’s teeth are just as important, if not more important, than adult teeth as they set the foundation for the permanent adult teeth and a lifetime of good oral health.
Does My Child Really Need Dental Exams? In addition to holding a place for your child’s permanent teeth, your child’s baby teeth, or primary teeth, are important also because they give your child the ability to chew naturally and speak clearly and proficiently.
It is recommended that you begin regular routine dental checkups with your baby by age one and that you continue to have consistent exams every six months thereafter.
Ask About Our Exciting “Happy Visits” for Kids!
If you are feeling somewhat reluctant as to whether or not your little one is ready to endure a dental exam, ease them and your mind by calling to schedule one of our “Happy Visits for Kids.” At this visit one of our well-informed and friendly dental assistants will take you and your little one on a tour of our entire practice. You and your little one will be able to meet Dr. Cynthia Pelley, who has a natural and warm way with children. She will walk you through all of the different dental instruments and tools that will be used at your child’s first visit and allowing your child to touch and explore their surroundings. Examining certain “fun” tools used, like Mrs. Squirty, who cleans our mouths out with water, and even super hero toothbrushes is sure to get your child excited about their first exam!
By allowing your child to familiarize them self with the office and their new pediatric dentist you are enabling them to build a certain confidence necessary in enjoying their first true dental exam experience, of which they will hopefully establish excitement about good oral health that will last throughout their entire adolescents and into adulthood.
